Suffering from Pain in the Back?

The upside of Back Pain is that it is there to warn you that something is not right. But there is a lot of confusion about Back Pain in the minds of many people as to how to get relief and even more confusing is Who to see.

Should I see a Chiropractor or a Physiotherpist or one of the many other therapists out there.

One of the questions I always get asked by my clients is “What is the difference between a Chiro and a Physio?”

I like to answer by differentiating between both of them and Soaztherapy.

Soaztherapy is a totally 360 degree different approach to Back Pain, SIJ pain, Hip pain, Sciatic pain, Groin and Pelvic pain.

Soaztherapy looks at the symptom which is Back Pain and treats what Causes Back Pain. It does not treat the Pain in the back.

I liken it to a car that has bad alignment. The result (symptoms) are premature wear and tear on the tyres and other structures. You cant just keep changing the tyres but this is foolish. You must get the alignment checked and corrected.

In your body the alignment is your Posture.

If your Posture is not optimal then you will always be having pain.

Download our FREE ebook “What Really Causes Back Pain”

At Posturepro we know how to get your ‘alignment’ to its optimal and stop your pain in the Back symptoms.

This 3-year study into back pain across the globe published in the prestigious medical journal The Lancet reports that our current treatments for back pain are lacking in evidence of effectiveness. See article below

Why Does My Back Hurt When I Stand Up?

When You sit your postural muscles shorten. Then when you stand up they unwind too quickly and like a spring they release very quickly and come to a point where they cannot unwind any more.

This limit of movement into a backward or extended position continues to repeat every time we go to stand up.

Eventually the opposite muscles to these never totally get back to their ‘home’ position. This results in these (Back Muscles) not working properly. They loose the ability to nourish themselves and become ischemic (lacking blood) when this happens these muscles then start to dehydrate and deteriorate. They then become painful.

This is why you feel pain into your back. But this is not where the problem is. This is where you feel your pain but it is not where you go to treat that pain.

This research paper [below] shows how the Psoas Major Muscle exerts huge compression and sheer forces on our low spine resulting in crumpling and severely shearing the lumbar spine.

Why Does My Back Pain Never Get Better

When I Have Tried So Many Different Treatments, Medications and Exercise?

The prestigious medial journal The Lancet did a 3 year investigation into back pain across the globe and across all musculoskeletal disciplines. They came to the conclusion that what we are doing and how we are treating back pain is lacking evidence of effectiveness. Read article below

LANCET ARTICLE low back pain

This research paper [below] shows how the Psoas Major Muscle exerts huge compression and sheer forces on our low spine resulting in crumpling and severely shearing the lumbar spine.

Anatomy and biomechanics of psoas major

Why Does My Back Pain Never Get Better?

This would be the most asked question I get in my clinic from patients who come to me with persistent Low Back Pain.

They tell me about all the various treatment approaches they have tried with results seeming to only last a short time before the back pain returns.

Back pain is one of the areas in our body that seems to just keep on keeping on. Even though it is treated it just doesn’t seem to last very long before it appears again.

Download our FREE ebook “What Really Causes Back Pain”

One of the ways I used to answer this question before, was to assume it was something my client had done to undo all my good work. One typical question might be “what have you been doing to make it painful?” Another question was about whether they have been doing their exercises?

This of course puts all of the blame back onto them. This approach then makes them feel like a failure. This is not the frame of mind to help themselves or me as their therapist.

Because I now know better, I explain to them how their back gets painful and what the answer is to avoid that long term.

Let’s put back pain into some perspective.

By the time you start getting back pain, your posture has already been compromised!

So repetitively treating your back pain ad-nauseum, will not resolve your back pain.

In fact, if you only keep having your back pain area treated you can be sure of one thing –

your back pain will continually keep coming back and it will increase in intensity and restrict your movements in your body going forward.

So at some point in this process your GP may recommend that you have a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan done of your back – this is quite common.

Most MRI scans will show degenerated discs around lumbar 4 & 5 levels, decreased disc space and even some bony degeneration – these are also quite common.

Then the MRI report will be sent on to your GP and they will go over with you, what the report has found.

Invariably, the report is going to tell you everything that was found and the deterioration of your low spine.

When you hear this, you are probably going to be even more concerned about your back pain and whether it will ever get better because your GP has confirmed this degeneration.

Now you not only have the pain, but you now have confirmation about the physical damage in your back and now you feel there is no hope!

The MRI has become like a self full-filling prophecy for you!

You now begin to see the future through the lens of the MRI. You’re possibly imagining a back operation as your only hope, with lots of rehabilitation that will need to be done after that operation. You’re thinking how that is going to affect your ability to continue working and having a normal life.
